  Italy in North Africa
Members of the League of Nations could not agree on petroleum sanctions against Italy in the Ethiopian War, although the loss of petroleum supplies would have severely hampered the Italian war effort. As a result, the Italians were able to circumvent the League economic sanctions, especially after the Germans remilitarized the Rhineland in March.

  The Middle East Before WW2
In response to the French dissolution of the Nationalist Party and the proclamation of martial law, Syrian nationalists launched a general strike. The economic gridlock forced the French to concede to nationalist demands.
