Events occurring on Monday, March 9, 1936  
  The Czechoslovak Prime Minister, Milan Hodza, began an official state visit to Vienna, Austria. The meeting reflected a rapprochement between the two countries in the face of growing German power. The Austrians feared German designs and were uncertain of Italian resolve, while the Czechoslovaks, with French support, hoped to bring Austria, and perhaps Hungary, in association with the Little Entente to form a stronger coalition against Germany.
