  The Spanish Civil War
In an effort to cut off military supplies to the Nationalists, the British government finally persuaded the Portuguese government to permit the British to station patrols on the border with Spain. By this time, General Francisco Franco's forces had begun receiving military supplies through northern Spanish ports and Portugal was no longer a critical staging area. The British had to conduct a balanced approach towards Portugal since that country became strategically important to traffic between Britain and Africa.

  The Middle East Before WW2
The Yemeni government agreed to adhere to the Saudi-Iraqi Treaty of Non-Aggression and Arab Brotherhood of April 1936. The adherence by Yemen reflected the Pan-Arab goals and future establishment of an Arab federation.
