  The light cruisers USS Nashville (CL 43) and USS Honolulu (CL 48) arrived in New York having brought $25 million in gold which were stabilization funds lent to the Bank of England. The funds were brought back to the United States because of wartime fears in the late summer-early autumn of 1938. The money was delivered to the Federal Reserve Bank in New York.
