Events occurring on Saturday, July 12, 1941  
  Diplomacy  
  Great Britain and the Soviet Union signed an agreement in Moscow providing for mutual assistance and agreed that neither will conclude an armistice or treaty of peace except by mutual agreement.  
   
  The Middle East in WW2  
  Despite instructions from Vichy France forbidding him to do so, General Henri Dentz accepted the Allied armistice terms. The armistice was signed at Acre, Palestine.  
   
  The United States Navy  
  The Office of the Coordinator of Research and Development was established to unify the U.S. Navy's research activities, and to evaluate the best ways of advising tactical officers of air, ground, and sea forces of the "latest applications of science to the problems of modern warfare."
