  The government of Brazil declared war on Japan.  
  Operation Iceberg - The Battle for Okinawa  
  Off Okinawa: The minesweepers USS Requisite (AM 109) and USS Spear (AM 322) were damaged in collision. Kamikazes damaged the light minelayers USS Harry F. Bauer (DM 26) and USS J. William Ditter (DM 31).  
  Adolph Hitler  
  A Soviet spokesman from Marshal Georgy Zhukov’s staff announced that German Chancellor Adolf Hitler’s body had been found and identified in the Chancellery gardens.  
  The Atomic Bombs  
  U.S. Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson informed U.S. President Harry S. Truman that the Interim Committee recommended keeping the atomic bomb a secret and using it as soon as possible without warning.
